INFORMATION AND CONSENT

You are invited to participate in a research study of Radboud University, the Netherlands. Your participation in the study is voluntary and anonymous.

Outline and aim of the research study

We want to evaluate the efficacy of a new Spanish proficiency test that can be used in research and education. By comparing our test to standards in the field, we can validate its use.

Who is conducting the research study?

This research is conducted by Jytte Beelen, Master thesis student from Linguistics programme supervised by Lieke van Maastricht and Aurora Troncoso Ruiz.

What does participation in the study entail?

In this study you will fill out an online survey. You will start on our experiment website, where you answer general demographic questions and questions that target your knowledge of Spanish grammar. Then you will be redirected to the second part of the study (on another website), where you will answer questions targeting your reading, listening, and vocabulary skillls in Spanish. Filling out the survey will take approximately 60 minutes.

Voluntary participation

Your participation in this research is voluntary. This means that you can stop your participation and withdraw your consent at any time during the study, without giving a reason.

What data do we collect and how do we handle it?

In this study we collect research data. These will be used for scientific purposes.

The research data will be anonymous. None of the answers you give can be traced back to you.

Your research data may of interest to other scientific research. The anonymous research data will therefore be available to other scientists for at least 10 years.

In order to carry out the study, it is necessary that we collect, use and store personal data. These personal data are: your age, native language, gender, education level and any visual-auditory and learning impairments that you may have. These data will be anonymous because there is no way to trace them back exclusively to you.

All anonymous personal data will be shared with researchers outside the research team in a data repository. Personal data necessary to answer the research question will be kept for at least 10 years. All research and anonymous personal data are safely stored following the Radboud University guidelines.

Access for control purposes

Some people need to have access to your anonymous personal and research data. This is necessary to check whether the data have been stored in accordance with the rules. Persons who carry out this check are, for example, the data officer and designated data management staff at Radboud University. They will keep your data confidential.

Your consent

Your data may only be used for our study if you give permission for this.

Because the data is immediately anonymous, your research data cannot be removed after the experiment, as there is no way to distinguish your data from the data of another participant who gave the same answers about age, native language, gender, education level and visual-auditory and learning impairments.
